Garfield Park Quality of Life Plan

What is a QLP?

A Quality-of-Life Plan (QLP) is a proven structure with a comprehensive set of strategies for improving a community, tailored to local needs and desires.

Quality of Life Plans for a community’s future are created and owned by the community and have served as a guide for investments and actions.

What are QLP strategies?

These strategies are developed in the committees that are priorities in the community. Some examples of strategies may include; recruiting new businesses, acquiring vacant lots for development, pursuing various neighborhood activities such as art, beautifying the corridor with a special service area and establishing a funding program for first time home buyers.

The strategies will depend upon the issue areas the community identify as being important. Committees will work to implement the strategies.

Who are the decision makers?

Various community stakeholders: education, politics, housing, youth development, business owners, property owners and community anchor institutions (banks, hospitals and education institutions).

How long will the QLP process take?

We would like to have the first version of a QLP plan released in February 2023. After that, ongoing information will be collected via committees, monthly town halls and quarterly community summits.

How can I get involved?

It depends on how involved you would like to be. Involvement looks like completing surveys, sharing information with your friends, family and co-workers in Garfield Park. In addition, involvement can also be; attending the Community Summits and Town Hall Meetings.
